We are running a short series of four gaelic programmes produced by The Islands Book Trust, daily from 11am starting on Monday 20th February.
Sgeulachdan is Sgoilearachd (Stories and Scholarship) is a series of four half-hour radio broadcasts, looking at gaelic tradition-bearers.
- Monday's show is called Sunamul. Looking at the history of the small island, Sunamul, near Balivanich, Benbecula, in the company of Alasdair MacEachainn, whose family on his Mother's side once lived on this now abandoned island.
- Tuesday's show is called Mianais. Tristan ap Rheinallt interviews Flora MacDonald, author of the acclaimed book 'Coco is Crubagan', about her upbringing on the remote and now deserted settlemant of Mianais on the east coast of Benbecula.
- Wednesday's show is called Domhnall Ailig MacEachainn. In this programme, Alasdair MacEachainn talks about his father, the great tradition-bearer Domhnall Ailig MacEachainn from Benbecula, and plays extracts from the School of Scottish Studies's extensive collection of recordings of Domhnall Ailig.
- Thursday's show is called Domhanll Aonghais Bhain. Examining the life and poetry of Domhanll Aonghais Bhain of South Lochboisdale. South Uuist, through the eyes of a young singer and student, Josie Burgess.
