Calling all writers and poets – closing date for The Baker Prize 2011 is 24 November...
Are you an aspiring author or poet? Are you writing a script for a play, TV show or film? Do you enjoy writing in your spare time? You still have an opportunity to submit your writing to the competition. Closing date is 24 November.
Winners will be announced at the December Literary Salon on 13th December when the Inaugural Meeting of the Skye Literary Salon will be held, and Roger Hutchinson (one of the Baker Prize judges) will be reading from his newly published book “The Silent Weaver”.
Just to remind you: The Baker Prize is a new annual writing competition organised by The Skye Literary Salon and The Isle of Skye Baking Company. This competition is open to anyone who can string a sentence together in either Gaelic or English. The theme for 2011’s competition is the Scottish Islands.
There are 4 categories you can submit entries to:
Gaelic poetry: judged by Maoilios Campbell
Gaelic short story/script/prose: judged by Morag Stewart
English short story/ script/ prose: judged by Roger Hutchinson
English poetry: judged by Mairi Kennedy
You can enter as many pieces of work in any of the categories as you would like to. Short stories, prose and scripts should be no more than 3,000 words in length. Poetry can be up to 80 lines. The winners will read their work at The Skye Literary Salon in January, where they will be treated to supper (with wine) and then have the opportunity to read their work in a programme on Cuillin FM.
