Yes, it’s back – Bigger, Better and with more prizes! Cuillin FM is pleased to announce the Reading Room BAKER PRIZE 2012 Writing Competition
The Skye Reading Room is launching this year’s Baker Prize writing competition at their monthly Reading Room event on 16 August at the Skeabost Hotel. Heather Magruder from North Carolina, the winner of the English Prose section in the 2011 inaugural Baker Prize writing competition, will be visiting Skye and reading at the launch on Thursday 16th August.
The Reading Room Radio Show’s presenter Charlotte Johnson said, “It really is going to be a great competition this year. We had a fantastic response last year and we’re expecting an even bigger one this year. It’s so good that Heather will be here on Skye as we launch the Baker Prize 2012 competition, we’re delighted to welcome her back to the Reading Room and hope she’ll enter again. Who knows she might have to come back to Skye for a third time if she wins again! This year’s competition has a lot to offer the winners – cash prizes, as well as publication in Northwords Now and broadcasting on Cuillin FM. This is sure to attract entries from far and wide.”
Cuillin FM is supporting the competition again by offering winners the opportunity to be interviewed and to read their winning entries on a special Reading Room Baker Prize Radio Show. In addition, this year’s competition has attracted sponsorship from Northwords Now, the free literary magazine for the North. Competition winners can look forward to a cash prize, publication in Northwords Now, and the chance to read at the Reading Room Baker Prize Awards event in February 2013.
The Baker Prize 2012 theme is Island Life and the closing date for entries is midday on 30 November 2012, so there’s plenty of time to get writing. Winners will be announced at the January Reading Room – date to be announced.

Please note: Cuillin FM, The Skye Reading Room & Northwords Now are unable to pay winners any expenses associated with attending the Reading Room event(s) or the recording of interviews and entries to be broadcast on Cuillin FM. Where winners are not able to attend events or be interviewed, the Reading Room will make suitable alternative arrangements to have entries read. By entering the competition, entrants are agreeing to this.
