cram the van christmas appeal

The Cuillin Hills The Cuillin Hills The Cuillin Hills The Cuillin Hills

Cuillin FM is pleased to once again be re-launching our “Cram the Van” Christmas Appeal for 2017.

We’ll be gathering new toys and gifts for local children (from babies to teens) via the various donation points around our listening area and literally cramming the Cuillin FM van with all your contributions to then distribute to the local children and families who will appreciate it most this Christmas.

We are now entering our fourth year of the Appeal and to date you have donated HUNDREDS of new toys and gifts and have helped 212 individual children (that’s dozens of local families) in Skye and Lochalsh have a better Christmas.

Why

Because research has found that in Scotland today:

  • Around 350,000 children live in cold homes in winter
  • 800,000 people are too poor to engage in common social activities
  • Over a quarter of a million children and adults aren’t properly fed
  • One in five adults has had to borrow in the last year to pay for day to day needs.

Hard as it can be to believe, these statistics include Skye and Lochalsh. We have heard stories of local children choosing to skip meals so other members of their family can eat. These families are here on our doorsteps and for many the Christmas season is a particularly hard time of year. We have a great platform to reach our local community and we want to use it to help ease the burden on local families at Christmas.

The generosity of the people of Skye and Lochalsh is well known. We give so freely to all sorts of worthy causes both at home and around the world. In the case of the Cram the Van Christmas Appeal, all the money raised and toys donated will stay right here on the island and Lochalsh to help local families.

How

We aim to keep it as simple as possible. After we’ve collected all your donations we will do some initial sorting and then pass them on to the local organisation we partner with. They will then sort and distribute them to the families they’ve identified in time for Christmas. Last year toys were distributed via the following local groups on Skye and Lochalsh:

  • School Nurses
  • Midwives
  • Fostering and Adoption
  • Community Children’s Worker
  • Children’s Service Worker
  • Family First
  • Social Work
  • Health Visitors

Where

If you are able to purchase an extra gift this year, we will have Big Red Toy Bins at the following locations around Skye and Lochalsh where you can drop them off:

  • Portree Co-op (Woodpark Road)
  • Broadford Co-op
  • Kyle Co-op
  • The Top Shop, Broadford
  • MacIntyre’s Toy Shop, Portree
  • Aros Centre, Portree
  • Cuillin FM Studio, Portree

We would ask for new and unwrapped toys only, please, so we can make sure they go to the right child. We regret we cannot accept used toys, even in good condition.

Cash donations are always very welcome as well and help us to make sure we have enough gifts for all the children identified. You can donate by cheque made payable to “Cuillin FM Christmas Appeal” or donate by BACS using the following details: Sort Code: 832619, Account Number: 0025 8412

When

The Red Bins will be out in shops for five weeks from Saturday 4th November until Saturday 9th December. These donations will be distributed to local families by our partners in good time for Christmas.
